It does not appear that the aes or cm sends applications heartbeats. Is there any kind of query i can use to somehow simulate a heartbeat? In other words is there a message i can make a request for and expect a response; if i dont get a response within 10 secs then i can assume the aes or cm is down? Also my app does not query for agent states so i would like to avoid using these unless they are the most viable method.

I take it you are talking about a heartbeat between AE Services and your application, not between Communication Manager and AE Services. Correct?

What SDK are you using?

AE Services and the TSAPI client have an in-built heartbeat mechanism. You can find more information about it in the Programmers Reference.
