Hello,
Our recording application connects softphone extensions via service observe to get the audio streams of monitored calls.
On one hand, we are listening to call control events to get informed about call flow on a monitored physical extension.
On the other hand, we are listening to media events to get informed when the softphone joins the call and starts streaming audio.
Usually the EstablishedEvent originated from the monitored physical extension and the MediaStartEvent originated from the softphone are arriving nearly at the same time.
Now we've seen some scenarios, where we've only got CallControlEvents, but no MediaControlEvents.
This behaviour happened in two independent installations.
Unfortunately, this issue is not really reproduceable. It may happen, that one call is signalized correctly and the next call does not sent any MediaControlEvent.
Both installations are running with AES V4.2.3.
Is there a known issue with missing MediaControlEvents or Service Observe malfunction?
Is there a way to check, if Service Observe is working correctly?
Regards,
Claus Suffel

Hello,
Our call recording application uses CallControl services to monitor physical devices.
In the case a a monitored device is involved in a call, a softphone is added to this cal via SSC.
The RTP of this softphone is retrieved via MediaControl services (client media mode)
Is there a fixed limitation of:
- how many davices can be monitored by a single DMCC application?
- how many softphones can be registered and controlled by a single DMCC application?
- how many media streams can be routed to an external application in parallel?
Regards,
Claus Suffel

Yes, ny question was originally related to the product called "IP Softconsole".
But now, I'm getting more and more confused because of all those product names involved in this subject area.
Until now, I've heard about
- IP Softconsole
- Attendant console
- IP Agent
- OSPC Softconsole (originated from Avaya's Tenovis department)
Please can you give me some differentiators for the products mentioned above?
Which of them are controllable via DMCC?
And what are the differences from the DMCC point of view?
Thanks.
Claus

We would like to monitor and record an IP-softconsole with our recording application in single step conference mode.
(we are using DMCC Java API 4.2.x)
Is is possible to attach CallControlListeners and MediaControlListeners to softconsole devices in the same way as it works with standard ip phones?
Does the monitoring of softconsoles behave exactly like the monitoring of standard phones?

Claus

» SSC causes PrivilegeViolationSpecifiedDeviceException, 29/06/2009 05:30:06

Hello,
our application initiates a single step conference (silent mode) from an active call to a softphone controlled by the app.
This usually works fine, but in some rare cases, establishing SSC leads to a PrivilegeViolationSpecifiedDeviceException.
What is the meaning of this kind of exception?
What could be the reason for getting those exceptions?
Regards,
Claus Suffel
BTW:
After the redesign , the 'Subject' and 'Release' fields of the forums enter mask appear unreadable small in my Firefox 3.0.11.

Hi Nick/John,
before starting any time-consuming ticket process, I always try to find out, who is responsible for the issue first, Avaya or our application.
To be able to do that kind of analysis, I have some general questions and therefore I've started this forum thread.
One question is the meaningof the phrase 'implementation specific error' in the description of SnapshotRequest's CstaException.
The other question is about the behaviour of a monitor point set via CallControl services in the case of an internal failure. It would be essential for our application to get informed if a monitor stops working due to any reason. In consequence of that, we would be able to display an error message to the user and to retry setting the monitor.
Even if the issue occured at customer site, these questions are of fundamental nature and mainly caused by the vague description in the api docs.
The corresponding answers might be helpful for the whole devoper community.
BTW: We are using DMCC Java SDK 4.2.1
Regards,
Claus

Hello,
our application registers CallControlListeners for several devices. Additionally we frequently issue SnapshotRequests for getting further information about ongoing calls.
In general this works fine.
But now we've seen at one installation that both services stopped working suddenly.
SnapshotRequest failed with CstaException. (JavaDoc's exception description 'Thrown if an implementation specific error occurred' is not really helpful at that point).
Beginning with that Exception, all monitored extensions stopped sending CSTA Events.
What might be the reason for such a behaviour?
Is there a way to get informed, if a CallControl monitor has an internal problem that prevents it from sending out CSTAEvents?

Claus Suffel

Hi Joel,
thank you for that information.
Our customer has already opened a ticket at Avaya support desk last week, but he is still waiting for an answer.
I'll tell our customer to put more pressure on this to have a chance for a preliminary patch.
Is there a kind of internal case number our customer can refer to?
Regards,
Claus

Hi John,
We need to find out how many SO and how many SSC requests a CM can handle in a given timeslot, e.g. a second.
Especially it is important for us to know, iif the limitations of both are lying in the same range, or if a CM is able to handle noticeable more SOs than SSCs.

Claus

John,
First of all thankyou for providing us with the document.
After reading through the paper, some things are clearer than before, but we still have some questions.
1)
Is there a difference in time the CM needs internally to establish SO in comparison to set up a SSC (not taking in account the time our app needs to process the ESTABLISHED event an to send out the SSC command).
2)
How many SO's or SSC's can a CM handle in a fixed period of time. Is this limitation equal for both types?
The 'Multiple Registrations' method is not a choice for us, because we must also be able to record SIP devices.
Regards,
Claus

Hello,
we are currently faced to the requirement to monitor and record a few hundreds of extensions in parallel with our DMCC call recording solution.
Basically there are two ways we can go: Service Observing or Single Step Conference.
Do you have any practical experience which of both methods is the better one in such a heavy load situation?
Are there any differences between SSC and SO regarding:
- generated load on CM or AES ?
- delay for establishing the internal conference ?
- consumption of internal resources on CM and AES ?
- ...
Regards,
Claus
