Features in the new release
This section summarizes the new functionality provided in the following releases:
Release 4.1
New telephones:
- 3641 and 3645 WiFi phones.
- IP DECT support in North America (3711 phone).
New hardware capabilities:
- IP500 Universal PRI daughter card - configurable to connect to T1, PRI, E1 or E1R2 lines,
available in single or dual interface variants. On each interface, 8 channels are enabled by
default. Further channels may be enabled by the purchase of additional licenses.
System software enhancements:
- Small Community Networking now supported on IP500 running Standard Edition software
- Internal Twinning of Appearance Keys
- VPN Phone capability in 4600 and 5600 series phones (requires license).
- Time of Day and Date Routing of calls
- Queue Threshold Alert when the number of calls queued against a Hunt Group exceeds a threshold.
- Syslog client to report administrative changes and security events to external servers.
- Disable Speakerphone on 2400, 5400, 4600, 5600 and 6400 series phones.
- Group Listen on 2402, 2410, 2420, 5402, 5410, 5420, 6408, 6416, 6424 phones.
- LAN 2 interface on port 8 of the IP406V2
IP Office applications:
- Added support for Windows Vista
- VoiceMail Pro enhancements:
- Call Transfer Announcements of destination name or number to the caller.
- Queue Announcements of the length of time the call has been in the system, as well as
the length of time the call has been in queue.
- Variable routing via Call Flow allows the testing of multiple variables against a
configured routing condition.
- Hunt Group and Account code recordings can be targeted to any selected mailbox.
- LIFO/FIFO playback order for messages can now be configured system-wide.
- Castelle Fax Servers are now supported by VoiceMail Pro.
- Embedded Voicemail enhancements:
- Up to 40 independent Auto Attendants may be configured, which may be linked together to
enable multiple tiers.
- Ability to give labels to prompt recordings and re-use them across Auto Attendants.
- Embedded Voicemail shutdown short code.
- Phone Manager Pro Telecommuter Mode allows the making and receiving of calls and the retrieving
of voicemails from an external phone number as if they were in the office, with Phone Manager
providing the call control.
IP Office management software:
- System Status Application can now play back previously recorded logs.
- Transport Layer Security (TLS) sessions between Manager and IP Office, plus an enhanced Password
policy.
- Manager Start-up Banner and Warning Dialog to avoid access conflicts.
Release 4.0
Note: IP Office 4.0 removes support for the IP403 and IP406 V1 control units, as
well as the following phones: 20DT Analog DECT, 4606, 4612 and 4624 IP phones, TransTalk 9040.
New hardware capabilities:
- IP Office 500 System Unit (IP500) - modular system with 4 slots for extension and trunk cards, 8
expansion ports and optional embedded voicemail card.
System software enhancements:
- IP Office Standard Edition - IP500 runs a subset of full IP Office functionality restricted to a
maximum of 32 users without advanced applications. A license upgrade to Professional Edition
removes this restriction.
- SIP Trunking (licensed feature).
- Hunt Group enhancements:
- Agent Status on No Answer - automatically change the status of agents who do not answer
a call into busy wrap-up, busy not available or logged off.
- Fallback - Night Service fallback using a time profile is no longer applied to a hunt
group already set to Out of Service.
- Voicemail Answer Time - controls when hunt group calls go to voicemail.
- Ringing calls are now counted as part of the queue.
- Announcements have been separated from queuing and can be used even when queuing is off.
Announcements are also now supported by Embedded Voicemail.
- The times between repeated announcements are now configurable.
- Synchronized Announcements make efficient use of voicemail ports
- SCN Distributed Hunt Groups - Hunt groups in a Small Community Network can include
members located on other systems within the network. (License required).
- Idle Status - for longest waiting hunt groups, the type of calls that change a hunt
group member's idle status can be selected.
- ISDN Features (subject to service provider support)
- Malicious Call Identification (MCID) - short codes and button programming features have
been added to trigger this activity at the ISDN exchange when required.
- Advice of Charge (AOC) - supported for outgoing ISDN calls on T3 phones, Phone Manager
and included in the IP Office Delta Server output.
- Call Completion to Busy Subscriber (CCBS) - allows call-back on external ISDN calls that
return busy. It can also be used for incoming ISDN calls to a busy user.
- Partial Rerouting (PR) - the ISDN exchange can route calls on ISDN channels forwarded
externally to other ISDN channels, freeing up trunks to IP Office.
- Explicit Call Transfer (ECT) - supported on the S0 interface. A call to an S0 Endpoint
can be transferred to any other endpoint device or trunk.
- Advanced Small Community Networking - these features require an Advanced Networking License on
each IP Office system in the network:
- Hot Desking across the Network - Hot desking is supported between IP Office systems
within the Small Community Network.
- Distributed Hunt Groups - groups can now include members who are located on different IP
Office systems within the Small Community Network.
- Break Out - allows outbound dialing from one system in the network as if dialed locally
on another system. A cost saving feature, this is provided primarily to support network
hot desking but can be used for other purposes.
- Private Call - users can set a status of private call using short codes or a programmed button.
Private calls cannot be recorded, intruded on, bridged into or monitored.
- RTP Relay - allows IP media streams between IP endpoints to be routed via the IP Office without
using VCM voice compression channels after call setup.
- Password Lockout - any phone feature that requires a validated entry will automatically fail if
preceded by 4 failed attempted in the previous 90 seconds.
- Firewall Service Controls - the IP Office firewall now includes controls to drop or allow
connections to default configuration settings, security settings and system status.
IP Office applications:
- VoiceMail Pro enhancements:
- Visual Voice - Avaya multi-line display phones can use a menu driven interface for
accessing and controlling the playback of messages in voicemail mailboxes.
- Voicemail Channel Reservation allows voicemail channels between VoiceMail Pro and the IP
Office to be reserved for particular business-critical functions.
- Voice Recording can now be triggered at the user, group and incoming call route level.
Also calls involving IP end points can now be recorded.
- User Announcements - user start points in VoiceMail Pro now include Queued and Still
Queued options.
- Cascaded Out-calling - sends a notification to specified phone numbers, with an
escalation capability, that a new voice message has been received.
- Embedded Voicemail enhancements:
- User and group announcements, fax re-routing, Visual Voice, playback control (e.g.
rewind), multi-level auto-attendant, up to 3 voicemail reception destinations.
IP Office management software:
- System Status Application - new application provides enhanced details about equipment and
resources in the IP Office system. This includes indication of alarms and details of current
calls in progress for local or remote diagnostics.
- Manager Operator Profiles Enhancements - new operator rights groups are available in the
Security Configuration Manager. These can be combined to provide even more flexibility when
defining access rights to the system configuration.
Release 3.2
IP Office management software:

supported but use of their DT ports is not.
