At one point I believe we were able to create a new HTTP Connector file for SMS so that POM could use a SMS aggregator outside of Clickatell, OneWaySMS, Zang, WebText and Zipwhip.

We needed to create a new .jsp page that is on the AEP in /opt/MMSServer/tomcat/webapps/SmsService/Http-Connector and then modify another file to have the new option appear in the HTTP SMS dropdown options. Does anyone have the procedure on what to modify so that the new JSP shows up in the dropdown list?

Take a look at the POM Developer's Guide release 4.0.2 (the latest one)
